Educational Visits

April 2018

Year 2 have visited Warwick Castle and had a fabulous day. We saw first-hand what a castle really looked like and went in the Great Hall to see the weapons, armour and shields that were used a long time ago. We experienced an Archer shooting arrows, the trebuchet working and birds of prey flying through the air.

In the Kingmaker exhibition we learnt about life long ago and how Knights prepared for battle.

March 2018

The morning nursery children visited Spring Vale library on Thursday 15th March. They learned about how the library works and had the opportunity to make masks related to stories.
Elizabeth (the community librarian) shared some of her favourite books with us.
The children then chose books to read alone, or to share with their family and friends. They enjoyed looking at a range of fiction and non-fiction books, and all left with their own library card and first set of book loans!

March 2018

On Tuesday 13th March 2018, the enthusiastic Reception children and staff went to the Wild Zoological Park. After a bumpy coach journey, which included cheering our way through the rolling hills in the countryside and excitedly naming the animals on the farm, we arrived at the zoo.
The classes observed exploring different animals from around the world. The children were fascinated to watch the antics of the animals led by Zachary the zookeeper, including snakes, wallabies and marmosets. Highlights included a macaw swooping across the education centre while the children and adults keep lowering their heads, and a binturong (bearcat) called Baloo who smells like fresh popcorn!
Each class also experienced a classroom session where we were able to meet and touch a tortoise, a skink, a snake and a bearded dragon as well a jumping hedgehog!
The return journey was considerably quieter than the outward one, with many worn out children falling asleep. The children were very well-behaved and were a credit to the school. We had a great trip and the children have been able to talk with great enthusiasm about our day out.
Many thanks to the staff and volunteers who organised and accompanied the trip.

February 2018

On Wednesday 28th February, pupils from Years 5 & 6, accompanied by Miss H Khawar, attended a one-day SACRE Conference, at The Way Youth Zone in Wolverhampton. Pupils had the opportunity to explore and express their ideas about respect for all, identity and community, through lots of discussion and art activities. Each child received a special VIP badge along with a notebook and a pen! They made Goldthorn Park Primary very proud once again. A big Well done from Miss H Khawar!

February 2018

Year 3 and 4 choir had the most marvellous time singing at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham!  We had been learning 3 songs in our choir sessions each week, which we were able to sing together on the concert day with lots of other schools in the West Midlands.  These involved singing in Jazz style, cumulative songs and rounds which were based around the theme of pets. We were taught many actions and dance movements to move along to. Although we found them tricky to start with, we enjoyed them immensely! Some of us even sang these on the coach returning back to school!   The total number of children that took part were nearly 1,000 and you can imagine, what an incredible sound we made! This will certainly be a morning we won’t forget!

January 2018

The Year 5’s had the most wonderful time at RAF Cosford to learn more about World War Two!
Our day involved looking at World War Two aircraft (and sitting in the cockpit of some of these aeroplanes!) taking part in an air-raid, trying on RAF costumes/looking at 1930’s artefacts, and listening to real-life experiences from War Veterans.
We also found out more about the behaviour of forces whilst taking part in Science Experiments.
All the class teachers were incredibly proud of the children’s behaviour during this visit, and the confident way they conducted themselves whilst researching more about life as a RAF pilot/child living in WWII.
All their work will feature in a special WWII day we will be holding in school soon – further details/invitations will be coming your way shortly!
