Our Ancient Greek topic was great fun. I remember making a Greek

clay pot and we learnt about all the legacies the Greeks left us with.

Bernard.  It's great when Humph's Histories visit our school!    Year 4

 Remembrance Day 2025

We have been learning about Remembrance and taking the time to reflect on sacrifices that were made by soldiers and those affected by war both past and present. We focused on the importance of peace, community and gratitude. We created our own poppies and laid them outside as a symbol of respect. We also created poppy artwork.

Bonfire Day 2025

Across school we have been learning about Bonfire Day and why it is a key Historical event in British History.  We focused on Guy Fawkes and learnt about the Gunpowder Plot and why he is such a significant Historical figure.

We added this to our class timelines to identify when in History this key event took place.

We enjoyed then using this learning to create Bonfire pictures using different media.

Year 3 children delved into an exciting extract from You Wouldn’t Want to Be Guy Fawkes by Fiona Macdonald during their Whole Class Reading session. Through this text, the children discovered fascinating facts about Guy Fawkes — learning about his life, why he left England, and the purpose of gunpowder. By the end of the lesson, they clearly understood how and why Fawkes and his companions plotted to blow up the Houses of Parliament.

To build on their learning and capture the spirit of Bonfire Night, the children created their own acrostic poems using the letters of “BONFIRE.” They chose powerful words and imagery to represent the colours, sounds, and excitement of the night sky. Later, they confidently performed their poems aloud, using expression, tone, and intonation to bring their writing to life.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to combine history, reading, and creative writing, while celebrating one of Britain’s most iconic traditions!

Year 1 have been learning about 'Mary Anning' . Mary Anning was an English fossil collector, dealer, and palaeontologist. She became known internationally for her discoveries in Jurassic marine fossil beds in the cliffs along the English Channel at Lyme Regis in the county of Dorset, Southwest England.

to try to replicate the Plesiosaur fossil she found in 1823.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes (born March 7, 1944, Windsor, Berkshire, England) is a British adventurer, pioneering polar explorer and writer.  Josephine Baker was a world renowned performer, World War II spy, and activist. We learnt about their lives and ordered them chronologically on a timeline.
