Day 3 Adventures!

Canoeing and Last Day Highlights! 🛶
As our residential trip at Laches Wood comes to a close, we couldn’t have asked for a better way to wrap things up than with one final adventure — canoeing!
Despite a little rain, spirits were high as we took to the water. Yes, we got a bit wet (okay, maybe more than a bit!), but that didn’t stop us from having a brilliant time. Paddling across the lake, working together as a team, and even laughing through the splashes made it an unforgettable experience.
Throughout the trip, we've learned so much — not just about nature and outdoor activities, but also about ourselves and each other. From high ropes to bushcraft, and now canoeing, every activity has brought new challenges and lots of fun.
We’ve all had an amazing time at Laches Wood. The memories we've made over the past few days will stay with us for a long time, and we can’t wait to share our stories, photos, and favourite moments with our friends and families back home.
Thank you, Laches Wood, for an incredible adventure! 🌲🏕️🚣
Day 2 Adventures!
After a successful first day and a well-earned night's sleep, the children woke up refreshed and ready for the excitement ahead. We kicked off the morning with a delicious breakfast that gave us the energy we needed for a day packed full of activities.
Our first challenge of the day was archery. With a steady hand and sharp eyes, the children quickly got to grips with their bows and arrows. It was brilliant to see their confidence grow throughout the session – we may even have a few future Robin Hoods in our midst! Well done Navya, Nosa, Siddarth, Danette, Miss Watkiss, Mr Middleton and Mr Rawlinson for hitting the bullseye! 🎯
Next up was something a little more daring – axe throwing. After learning the correct technique (and a big focus on safety!), the children impressed us all with their precision and strength. From small axes to larger ones, they rose to the challenge and showed great control and enthusiasm. Reggie ‘the axe man’
was a real standout with his amazing throwing talents.
Following our lunch, we headed off to tackle the high ropes. With helmets on and harnesses secure, the children showed incredible bravery and resilience. It was inspiring to watch them overcome their nerves, encourage one another, and celebrate each success as they jumped from heights and safely reached the ground. A special mention to Harleen for overcoming her fears.

We rounded off the afternoon with a fun and challenging session of crate stacking. This activity was a true test of balance, communication, and cooperation – and the children absolutely smashed it! Whether they were stacking, supporting, or cheering from the sidelines, everyone played a part and most importantly, had a fantastic time. Alisa and Miss Watkiss achieved the highest stack without falling which was 12 crates high!

After a busy and exciting day, we all enjoyed a well-deserved evening meal of pizza and chips or pasta and meatballs– a definite hit with everyone! To finish off the day, we took part in ‘Emoji Madness’, a team-based challenge full of puzzles and activities that tested our problem-solving skills and teamwork. It was an action-packed day and we can’t wait for canoeing on our last day
Day 1
We’ve arrived at Laches Wood and are excited to begin our 3-day adventure! The children have quickly settled into their new surroundings and are enjoying dorm life with their friends.
After unpacking, our first team challenge was making our beds – a great way to start working together and getting used to our new surroundings.
Our first activity of the day was bouldering, where everyone gave it their all and pushed themselves to reach new goals. It was fantastic to see so much determination and encouragement between friends.

Next up was indoor caving – a thrilling and challenging experience that everyone embraced with enthusiasm. Crawling through tunnels and exploring the dark spaces really tested our bravery and teamwork.
After a delicious evening meal, we rounded off the day with the photo trail activity. Working in teams, we followed clues and hunted for pictures around the site to solve a tricky problem – a fun and energetic end to our first day!
The children have been amazing, showing great teamwork, resilience, and excitement. We can’t wait for what tomorrow brings!
