World Book Day  2026

Meeting Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, a group of our Year 3 and 4 children joined lots of other schools at a fantastic event at Grand Central Station in Wolverhampton today.

The event marked the 10th anniversary of the bestselling children's book collection Little People,

BIG DREAMS, which has inspired our World Book Day costumes today at Goldthorn Park. We met the

author of the series - Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara - who led us on a creative journey of songs, quizzes, drawing and storytelling.

These amazing books help us to realise that we can achieve great things—no matter how small they start!

Whole School Storytime

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, classes across the school enjoyed special Storytime visit from different teachers. Throughout the morning, teachers travelled to a different classroom, sharing a favourite book and reading aloud to pupils.

The children loved hearing stories read by new faces, and the visits helped create a wonderful buzz of excitement around reading. From picture books and adventures to funny tales and classics, each session gave pupils the chance to relax, listen, and enjoy the magic of storytelling.

It was a fantastic way to bring our whole school community together and to remind everyone just how enjoyable a good story can be.

Storytime

Each Year group completed work from their chosen text. Here are some examples!

Year One read 'Mary Anning' from the book collection, Little People Big Dreams.

They enjoyed learning all about her life and how she was a determined young lady! She worked hard to achieve her hopes and dreams.

The children followed up this learning with writing a little bit about her life and then went on to share their hopes and dreams for when they grow up!

Year 2

Year 3 had a wonderfully inspiring World Book Day as they spent time learning about their chosen inspirational figure — Sir David Attenborough. Through engaging videos and a whole‑class reading session, the children explored his life, his passion for the natural world, and the many ways he has encouraged people across the globe to care for our planet.

Motivated by all they had learned, the children wrote heartfelt letters to Sir David himself. Their teachers will be posting these soon — and we are all hopeful for a reply!

To finish the day, pupils researched facts about an animal of their choice before creating beautiful silhouette‑style artwork inspired by their findings. This child‑led project combined creativity with scientific curiosity, resulting in striking displays that celebrate both art and nature.

Our Year 6 pupils have been busy unleashing their inner creative geniuses!
In celebration of World Book Day 2026, they stepped into the iconic black turtleneck of Steve Jobs himself—well, metaphorically—and created their own high‑energy motivational speeches.

With big imaginations, bold ideas, and a sprinkle of showmanship, the children set out to inspire young people everywhere to dream huge, invent wildly, and maybe even become the entrepreneurs who’ll create the next must‑have gadget (or save the world… no pressure!).

Their speeches were packed with passion, humour, and the kind of “think different” spirit that would make any innovator proud. We loved seeing them turn their voices into powerful tools for change—and we think you will too!
