Summer Term 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are thrilled to be celebrating our Sports Days with you this week. The children have been preparing for the Sports Day activities during PE classes and are eager to demonstrate their skills. We will monitor the weather closely and will make prompt decisions if we need to make any changes. Please stay tuned to ClassDojo for any updates regarding this.
Refugee Week was a roaring success with our pupils engaging with texts, online live author events including Michael Rosen, in person author events and timetabled activities throughout the week exploring the theme of 'Home'. Please see article below from Mr Middleton for further information.
Last week Year 6 enjoyed American football workshops from a national coach who described our children as eager to learn and engaged, well done Year 6! Our Year 5 pupils extended their PSHEe learning by completing a first aid course run by a professional trainer, the children learned great lifesaving skills which will come in useful in the future.
This week our focus is Olympic Week which includes our Sports Days alongside inter-Trust competitions where groups of pupils from each year group are representing Goldthorn Park. We look forward to sharing our successes with you on ClassDojo.
A reminder that we are closed to pupils on Thursday 4th July as the school hall is being used for General election voting.
Thank you to all of our families for your continued support.
Best wishes,
Mrs R. Purshouse
(Headteacher)
Refugee Week 2024
We celebrated Refugee Week with a host of events and activities that explored the theme of ‘Our Home’ and what it means to us. Supported by our Welcome Committee, we joined together across school to share stories, get active, make new connections and work together to look after and care for our school home.
We explored texts with the theme of people seeking sanctuary, and joined the author and poet Michael Rosen in a live event to share what home means to him. Key Stage 1 enjoyed a visit from the author Monika Gangotra, who shared her empowering story ‘Sunflower Sisters’, which explores the importance of celebrating who are.
We are also delighted to share that Japleen, from Class 13, received a prize in Wolverhampton Council’s 500 Word Writing competition. The judges felt that Japleen’s powerful poem ‘Our Home’ really embodied the themes of welcome and compassion that underlie what Refugee Week is all about.
Japleen can be seen accepting her prize at the Civic Centre from Councillor Jacqui Coogan, cabinet member for children, young people and education. Thank you to all children who submitted entries for the competition – the very high standard of writing made the judges job a very difficult one!  Â
