Children in Year 1 have been learning about the features of instructional writing. They explored how instructions include a title, a list of equipment, and clear step-by-step directions. The children then wrote their own set of instructions for how to make a paper plate dinosaur. They worked hard to make sure their steps were clear and in the correct order. This year’s Mental Health Week theme is “This is My Place.”  It encourages children to think about the places where they feel safe, happy, confident, and free to be themselves. It’s a lovely opportunity to explore belonging, comfort, and the things that support positive mental health. Year 1 had a wonderful time creating their own “My Place”  this afternoon. The children reflected on what makes them happy and expressed their ideas through their artwork. Well done, Class 4!

Year 1 explored the word 'experiment' and what it means for artists to experiment and why it is an important process to complete. Children then did a carousel activity where they could experiment painting different designs using different sized paint brushes. We then discussed the differences between each brush used. Our work is inspired by Cesar Manrique.

Year one enjoyed learning about  Chinese New Year and marked this special occasion with a special family assembly. We invited parents and carers to come in to school and we shared information about this celebration along with lots of singing and dancing. We also shared some Bonfire pictures and decorative lanterns.

Year 1 took part in a walk around our local area as part of our Geography 'Unity in the community' topic. We explored different physical and human features whilst remembering how to keep safe in our local environment.

We are incredibly proud of all the children who took part in this year’s Key Stage 1 Christmas production, Barmy Bethlehem. Every pupil sang and performed beautifully, filling the hall with festive cheer and getting us all into the Christmas spirit.

What a fantastic opportunity our children had today, watching a wonderful Christmas puppet performance from Penn Puppets! The show was full of festive fun, music and laughter, and our pupils were absolutely captivated from start to finish. “It was the best!” said Gurshaan from Reception — and we couldn’t agree more!

Our school was filled with colour, music, and excitement as we celebrated Diwali – the Festival of Lights! Some of our children came dressed in beautiful traditional costumes, bringing a vibrant splash of culture to the day.
