Year one walked to our local library to promote our love for reading. We met the librarian and she gave us a tour of the library and shared some stories with us. We joined in with the actions and made a mask based on the 'Super Wolf' story. We can't wait to use our new library memberships to borrow books with our families! Well done year one, we were really impressed with your manners - you represented Goldthorn Park beautifully.

Throughout the morning, teachers travelled to a different classroom, sharing a favourite book and reading aloud to pupils. They talked to us about how important and enjoyable reading can be, and they encouraged everyone to “Go all in” for reading this year! We’ve had a wonderful week of learning, which started by taking part in Simon Mole (poet) and Gecko’s (Musician) online learning session by clapping and singing to rhymes about insects. We even had a go at making up our own rhyme and used instruments to the syllables of the words.  We have had a great time creating our very own sock puppets into a new character and telling stories about them. We’ve also enjoyed reading for pleasure every day!

Children in Year 1 have been learning about the features of instructional writing. They explored how instructions include a title, a list of equipment, and clear step-by-step directions.
