Meeting Author Matt de la Peña and Illustrator Christian Robinson!

Children in Year 2 and 3 had the exciting opportunity to visit the Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton, where they met Matt de la Peña and Christian Robinson, the author and illustrator of the award-winning picture book Last Stop on Market Street.

During the session, the children discovered that becoming an author or illustrator is not just for high achievers, but for anyone with a passion for learning, creativity, and perseverance. Both Matt and Christian spoke about their creative processes, highlighting the importance of editing, redrafting, and continuous improvement in their work.

Matt spoke about the inspiration behind his writing. Christian wowed the audience by demonstrating how he creates his illustrations—and even drew some animals live on stage! To top off a fantastic day, every child received their own free copy of the book to take home and enjoy.

It was a truly inspiring visit that encouraged our young learners to see themselves as future authors and illustrators.
