School News 27th April 2026

Headteacher's Message

Dear Families,

In last year’s parent survey, many families told us they would like to see our school become more competitive in sport and physical education. We value this feedback and are proud to say that we listened and acted upon it. As a result, we have strengthened our sporting provision by welcoming Mr Ford, our sports coach, whose expertise is already enriching opportunities for pupils across the school.

We are also delighted to have been accredited with the Association for Physical Education Quality Mark, recognising the quality and ambition of our PE provision. This reflects our commitment to developing confident, active and motivated learners.

This renewed focus on sport has been further brought to life by an inspiring achievement from one of our own staff members. This weekend, Mr Middleton represented our school with great pride by completing the London Marathon, running the full 26.2 miles in an impressive time of 4 hours and 17 minutes. While undertaking this challenge, he raised £2,000—double his original target—for the local charity The Haven, which supports vulnerable members of our community.

We are incredibly proud of Mr Middleton’s achievement and the way he demonstrated our Value of the Month, Optimism, throughout his journey. His positive mindset, determination and generosity have inspired pupils and families alike, showing what can be achieved with belief, perseverance and hope.

With these achievements in mind, we kindly ask that all pupils come to school wearing the correct PE kit in line with our school uniform policy. Wearing the appropriate kit helps children feel comfortable, confident and ready to enjoy their PE lessons, while also supporting high standards across all physical activities. In order to maintain these high standards, we expect pupils to wear the correct kit for all PE sessions, and we really appreciate your continued support in helping children be well prepared on their PE days, as this contributes positively to their experience of sport and physical education.

Finally, I would like to thank all parents and carers for your continued support and partnership with the school. We value open communication and would like to reassure you that school leaders are always approachable and happy to listen. Please feel free to speak to a member of the leadership team during drop‑off or pick‑up times, or contact us via the school office if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions. Working together remains central to the success and wellbeing of our pupils.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs R. Purshouse

Safeguarding is Everyone's responsibility

At Goldthorn Park Primary School our door is always open. If you

have any concerns about a child or family, please contact the

school. We are here to listen and help provide the support you need.

Medical updates

We kindly ask parents and carers to ensure that the school is informed of any medical updates relating to their child at the earliest opportunity. This includes information about allergies, asthma inhalers, prescribed medication, or any new medical diagnosis. Sharing this information promptly allows us to work closely with you and ensure the appropriate support is in place. Keeping our medical records up to date helps us to work together to keep all pupils safe, healthy and well throughout the school day.

The Importance of Good Attendance

Regular school attendance plays a vital role in every child’s learning, progress, and overall development. Children who attend school consistently are more likely to achieve strong academic outcomes, while also developing essential skills such as resilience, routine, and confidence that support their future success.

At Goldthorn Park Primary School, we are committed to working in close partnership with our families to ensure every child attends school regularly, arrives on time, and is ready to learn each day.

Key Attendance Information

  • Attendance below 96% is considered low

  • Attendance below 90% means a child is classed as Persistently Absent

By continuing to support one another and prioritising attendance wherever possible, we can ensure that every child has the very best opportunity to flourish and reach their full potential.
