Headteacher’s Message – Careers Week Celebrations

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week, our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils have enjoyed a wonderful range of experiences as part of Careers Week here at Goldthorn Park Primary. It has been inspiring to see our children so engaged, curious, and enthusiastic as they explored the many possibilities their futures can hold.

On Tuesday, pupils took part in a fantastic careers carousel where a wide variety of representatives kindly gave up their time to talk about their roles. The children learned about careers in the police, RSPCA, the charity sector, sales, health, catering, the fire service, and beauty. Each visitor shared valuable insights, answered thoughtful questions from pupils, and helped broaden their understanding of the world of work.

We were also thrilled to welcome Safran, a local engineering firm, into school yesterday. Six of their representatives volunteered their time to deliver an exciting and hands‑on STEM workshop, giving our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils the chance to explore engineering concepts in an enjoyable and practical way. Their enthusiasm and expertise made the session both memorable and motivating.

At Goldthorn Park Primary, the future success of our pupils is incredibly important to us all. Careers Week is just one way we aim to inspire our children to dream big, explore their interests, and begin to understand the wide range of employment pathways open to them. We hope that these experiences will encourage them to think confidently about their own ambitions as they continue their learning journey.

Thank you to all our visitors and to our staff team for making this such a meaningful and enriching week for our pupils.

Warm regards,

Goldthorn Park's Career Fair 2026

Goldthorn Park hosted our first ever Career’s Fair for our Year 5 and 6 children. We had guests who represented different jobs and careers in school, to help our children understand how school skills connect to real life and to build curiosity and confidence about their future. We had members of the police and fire service, a make up artist, caterers, a salesperson, an NHS worker, a RSPCA officer, and a worker from the charity sector.

Our children asked really insightful questions to our guests about their jobs, what they involve and the training they needed to get where they are. We had a fabulous afternoon thinking about the world of work and building aspirations for our futures!

STEM Challenge - Safran

Children in Years 5 and 6 took part in an inspiring, hands‑on STEM workshop led by aerospace experts from Safran. Throughout the day, pupils stepped into the role of real engineers, applying their knowledge of forces, design, problem‑solving and teamwork across a series of exciting challenges.

One of the activities involved the marshmallow‑and‑spaghetti tower challenge, where pupils had to think carefully about structure, stability and height as they experimented with different engineering approaches. They also had the opportunity to design their own aircraft, considering elements such as slipstreaming and aerodynamics to create the most efficient model possible.

Later in the workshop, the children put their understanding of forces to the test by cushioning an astronaut’s landing and taking part in a parachute drop challenge, refining their designs to slow descent and protect their astronaut on impact. Year 5 and 6 STEM Challenge

When giving the school feedback on their day, the lead from Safran shared:

"Both Year 5s and 6s were incredibly engaged throughout all the activities and were very polite. Seeing how they worked together in the different challenges was amazing. At no point did it feel like any of the children didn’t want to be there. They all asked us numerous questions and seemed genuinely interested in what STEM is and what we do at Safran. All the teachers got involved, and the organisation from the school was perfect.

The school and the students are inspirational, and I hope to see what the future holds for them. We would be happy to support any further initiatives moving forward."

Feedback like this makes us all incredibly proud, as you can imagine.
