Headteacher's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Last summer, our parent surveys highlighted that you would like to see additional opportunities for our children to succeed in sport. We listened carefully, and we are delighted to share that many initiatives have already been put in place to support this.
We have increased our participation in sporting competitions, and we have also employed our very own Sports Coach, Mr Ford, who works closely with our PE Lead, Mrs Ward, and our Personal Development Lead, Mr Middleton. Together, they are enhancing our children's love of PE and school sport across all year groups.
We are also currently working towards an accredited award for PE, which recognises the quality of our provision and the many successes we have achieved so far. We are proud of our strong curriculum, and our teachers love delivering PE lessons. Most importantly, our children love their PE lessons too and enjoy sharing all the sporting activities they take part in outside school—brilliant!
While high‑quality teaching and opportunities are essential, we know that having an inspirational role model can motivate children even further. We are incredibly proud to share that Mr Middleton has been selected to run in the London Marathon 2026 where he will represent our school and raise much‑needed funds for The Haven, a local charity that supports families across Wolverhampton.
Mr Middleton will be taking on this extraordinary challenge on Sunday 26th April 2026. We could not be more proud of him, and we hope you will all be looking out for him on the television as he represents both our school and a fantastic cause.
Warm regards,
Mrs R. Purshouse
Headteacher
Daily Mile Running Track

Funded by the London Marathon Foundation, and as part of a shared commitment to transforming outdoor spaces in more than 30 schools across areas of high deprivation in England and Wales, the new Active Playground at Goldthorn Park is one of the first to be installed—with many more to follow in the coming weeks.
With fewer than half of children in England currently meeting the Chief Medical Officers’ guidance of 60 minutes of daily physical activity (Sport England Active Lives Children and Young People Survey, 2025), these new Active Playgrounds offer a creative solution. Designed by Fun and Active Playgrounds, the vibrant and imaginative markings encourage movement and play throughout the school day.
At Goldthorn Park, the “star jump station” has already become a pupil favourite.
Mr Middleton, Assistant Headteacher at Goldthorn Park Primary School, shared: “We’ve brought life back into a tired playground that would have been difficult for us to fund ourselves. Working with the London Marathon Foundation has been transformative. We now have a playground that feels cared for—somewhere the children are excited to use and engage with.”

Parent Mile Launch Event

Calling all parents and carers, Mr Ford will be leading a Daily Mile club on each Thursday morning on Key Stage 2 playground from 08:30 - 08:45. We will be using our new Daily Mile track and we would love for you to join!
The Daily Mile is a simple, fun way to be active. You can walk, jog or run at your own pace! It’s a great opportunity to enjoy some fresh air, get moving, and model positive habits for our children.
You don’t need any special equipment or sports clothing—just comfortable shoes and a willingness to join in. Everyone is welcome, and participation is entirely
optional.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our children stay active, healthy, and happy. We hope to see many of you joining us on the playground!
Mr Middleton
London Marathon Foundation Mini‑Marathon at Goldthorn Park!

We are excited to announce that the London Marathon Foundation will be visiting Goldthorn Park Primary School to host a special Mini‑Marathon event in the days leading up to the main London Marathon!
This will be a fantastic opportunity for our children to get active, have fun, and experience a little of the marathon spirit right here at school. It’s set to be an inspiring event that celebrates movement, teamwork, and positive energy across our whole school community.
We will share more information as soon as we have it, including dates, timings, and how children will take part.
Thank you for your ongoing support—let’s get ready to run!
Support Mr Middleton in the London Marathon – Back The Haven Wolverhampton

This year, our Assistant Headteacher, Mr Middleton, is taking on the incredible challenge of running the London Marathon to raise vital funds for The Haven Wolverhampton—a local charity making a life‑changing difference to women and children escaping domestic abuse.
The Haven provides 24/7 emergency support, safe accommodation, counselling, advocacy, children’s services, and specialist programmes for some of the most vulnerable families in our community. They have been doing this essential work for over 45 years, helping women and children rebuild their lives free from fear and violence.
Every donation—big or small—helps The Haven continue offering round‑the‑clock helplines, refuge spaces, emotional support, and practical assistance for those facing crisis.
If you would like to sponsor Mr Middleton, please contact the school office for the link. In doing so you are not just supporting his marathon journey—you’re directly helping families in Wolverhampton find safety, hope, and a fresh start.
Let’s get behind him and make a real difference together.
