Headteacher's Message
Dear parents and carers,
I would like to extend my heartfelt thank you to our wonderful school community for the fantastic start we have had to the new school year at Goldthorn Park Primary School. It's been truly inspiring to see our pupils in their smart uniforms, ready to engage in learning and play. Thank you parents and carers for supporting reading at home and completing your child's reading diary daily, as this reflects our commitment to personal growth and academic excellence. I am also grateful for the strong parent engagement we have seen through various meetings and events, which truly enrich our school environment. We take immense pride in our school, the hard work of our pupils, and the continued support of our families. Together, I am confident we will have a successful year ahead. Thank you for being such an important part of our school community.
Kind Regards,
Mrs R. Purshouse

Year 2 Adventure to Kingswood Trust: A Day of Discovery and Teamwork
Our Year 2 children and their parents enjoyed a fantastic day out at Kingswood Trust. The adventure began with everyone working in groups to build dens from natural materials, showing great teamwork and creativity.
Next, they went pond dipping and discovered amazing minibeasts like newts and giant snails. “I’ve never seen a newt before – it’s amazing what you can find if you look closely!” said one excited pupil.
In the afternoon, we fed rabbits and guinea-pigs, followed by an outdoor music trail hunt. We ended the day feeding sheep and picking apples and pears from the orchard.
It was a wonderful day of discovery, teamwork, and fun—thank you to all the parents who joined us!

School Council 2025

Goldthorn Park Primary is proud to announce our newly elected School Councillors: Gurjot, Ravnoor, Keisha, Gurbaaz, Scarlett, Gursehajpreet, Aranvir, Aditya, Navya, and Sehajpal. Chosen by their peers through a democratic vote, these pupils will represent their classmates well by listening to their ideas and sharing them with the school. This process reflects the important British value of democracy.
Our School Councillors will meet regularly to discuss and plan special events, sharing ideas and making decisions that help shape the future of our school. Their voices and contributions ensure that everyone in our school community is represented and heard.
Very soon, our Year 6 pupils will also have the opportunity to apply for the honour of being selected as Head Girl or Head Boy. These important roles work closely with the School Council to help make decisions and lead positive changes across the school.

Jagjot, Rudvik, and Rohan from Year 4 have been selected as this year’s Digital Leaders. Throughout the year, they will work with Miss Simpkiss to promote online safety and find new ways to use and improve technology across the school. Miss Simpkiss is looking forward to collaborating with this enthusiastic group, and we can’t wait to see the fantastic ideas they will share!

Young Interpreters 2025

Mr Middleton is proud to launch our Young Interpreters scheme this term, to support new pupils who are learning English as an Additional Language (EAL). Our new Young Interpreters have been busy receiving the first two sessions of their training this week, learning how we can help new arrivals to school, making them feel welcome and a valued part of our school. Our first session involved our Young Interpreters considering their own experiences of different languages. We were amazed to discover the number of languages spoken in the room! These included Punjabi, Hindi, Romanian, Akan/Twi, Arabic, Malayalam, Gujarati and Shona. We truly are a multilingual school!
What is a Young Interpreter?
The Young Interpreter Scheme® is designed to provide peer support for pupils who are learning English as an Additional Language (EAL), as well as their families and the wider school community. Through this scheme, learners aged 5-16 receive training to develop the skills needed to help new arrivals with EAL feel welcome and settled in their new school environment. The programme also helps Young Interpreters build confidence, communication, and leadership skills. For schools, it is a valuable way to celebrate multilingualism and recognise the talents of their pupils.

Attendance Matters...

Regular attendance at school is vital for every child’s learning and development. Research shows a clear link between low attendance and lower academic achievement. At Goldthorn Park Primary School, we are committed to supporting all our children and their families to ensure pupils are in school, on time, every day.
If you have any concerns about your child’s attendance, please contact the school so we can work together to provide support. Attendance below 96% is considered low, and children with attendance below 90% are classed as Persistently Absent. Let’s work together to give every child the best chance to succeed.
