Summer Term 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
What an amazing start for the Summer Term 2025! The children have returned to school after the Easter holiday with an amazing attitude towards their learning, which puts us in a good position for our statutory tests for Year 6 next week, Year 4 Times tables, and Year 1 Phonics.
If your child is in Year 6, can you please ensure your child has a good night's sleep so they come into school rested and ready to SMASH their Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar test tomorrow morning? We have a free SATs breakfast offer where our Y6 children can come into school from 8:15 and have a chat with their friends beforehand, which calms some pre-test nerves, so feel free to access this. Most importantly, all Year 6 children MUST be in our school hall for registration at 8:50 so we can get organised and started on time. Thank you in anticipation of your support with this.
As a school, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday, 8th May. The children have learned that VE Day, which is also known as Victory in Europe Day, was on 8 May 1945. It's a special time for many people all over the world as it was the day fighting against Nazi Germany in Europe ended during the Second World War. Just months later, the war was officially over.
We look forward to continuing to work together and appreciate your active involvement in our school community. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for being an integral part of our school family!

Best wishes,
Mrs Purshouse
(Head Teacher)

Census Lunch

On Thursday, May 15th, we will host a special Census lunch. We have prepared an exciting menu for Census day to encourage as many children as possible to have a hot meal, as our school funding is connected to the number of hot meals ordered.
If your child is in Reception, Year 1, or Year 2, this is available for free, and the children simply place their order with their teacher. In KS2, children will place their order, and the school will apply the standard meal charge of £2.50 unless they qualify for Free School Meals.
The more children who receive a hot meal, the more funding the school will obtain to continue providing a wide range of experiences for our wonderful children.
Safeguarding - Year 6 Precious Lives Workshop

At Goldthorn Park Primary, we prioritise the safety of our children and their families. Recognising the significance of knife crime in today's society, we are pleased to welcome the Precious Lives workshop to engage with our Year 6 students.
This workshop provides self-help tools such as building positive choices, resilience, and peer-to-peer learning. It covers:
• Choices - discussing the daily decisions young people make, who influences these decisions, and the factors affecting their choices. It examines the concept of peer pressure and why young individuals conform.
• Character/Personality Building - discussing the diversity of characters and personalities, exploring character traits, and engaging in a brief activity on peers and characters.
• Discussion about knife crime - exploring why some young people make this choice, the reasoning behind these decisions, and their potential consequences. It also connects peer pressure to joint enterprise and its repercussions, aiming to instill awareness of the dangers and consequences of their choices.
The workshop provides a safe and open environment for young people to engage in these discussions, offering interactive sessions and time for activities.
