Autumn Term 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,

a huge thank you to the parents of our Year 4, 5 and 6 children who have supported our daily swimming sessions throughout September, I know there will have been lots of washing and drying of swimming kits but it has all been worth it! School has invested in daily swimming lessons in the pop-up heated pool for our children to learn the potentially life saving skill of swimming. The children had a fantastic time with their swimming teacher Oli and all made progress towards their 25metre swimming goal. We haven't had the exact numbers yet but we know that most of Year 6 pupils and over half of Year 5 pupils can now swim 25metres using different swimming strokes and all of the pupils have built their confidence in water safety. We are incredibly proud, well done children!
It was wonderful to see parents at our Online Safety workshop last week and our Reflexions workshop today. Both of these workshops were led by professionals in their field and focus on support that is available to keep our children safe and healthy
If you would like to access some of the content from our Online Safety workshop with Patrick Flynn please follow the link below and keep an eye out for our online safety newsletters each term.
Our children are wearing their school uniforms with pride and following our school uniform policy, thank you. A reminder that our PE uniform is black shorts/ leggings/ joggers, white t-shirt and green school jumper/ cardigan. Black jumpers/ hoodies should not be worn to school.
We look forward to a busy week filled with parents' evenings on Tuesday and Wednesday - please ensure you have booked your time with your child's class teacher - and our PCSO Trudi Brittle is in to run workshops with Year 5 and Year 6 around social media and hate crime to enhance our PSHEe curriculum.
Thank you to all of our families for your continued support.
Best wishes,
Mrs R. Purshouse
(Headteacher)
Parliamentary Assembly - Personal Development
Key Stage 2 received an important visitor from the Houses of Parliament this week. Clare Mullin, from the Houses of Parliament Outreach team, gave us a fascinating insight into how our government works. We learned about the concept of democracy and how laws are created and made. We asked some very intelligent questions all about our seat of government.
Do we have any future politicians in our school, or even a budding Prime Minister?
Grand Theatre Visit - Enrichment

Year 2 and Year 3 had a fabulous time at the Grand Theatre for a performance organised by the charity ‘The Children’s Book Show.’ We were introduced to the story ‘Drew, Moo and Bunny Too’, and listened as the author Owen Sheers read the story. We watched as the book’s illustrator, Helen Stephens’ drew amazing illustrations as the author spoke. We all had a copy of the book, and some of us were treated to a workshop in the afternoon at school, delivered by the author and illustrator themselves!
Guinness World Record Attempt - Enrichment

Our KS2 children LOVED taking part in a Guinness World Record attempt last week.
This was part of our National Poetry Day celebrations. Our children joined the published poet Laura Mucha and thousands of other students across the country to attempt to break the record for 'Largest Poetry Lesson taught Across Multiple Venues.'
The theme of the poem was ‘counting’, resulting in a collaborative poem that will be publicised around the country.
