Summer Term 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,

our school was bursting with colour on Friday 13th June as we created a spectacular whole school rainbow picture to celebrate our Day of Welcome. At Goldthorn Park Primary, welcoming new children and their families isn't just something we do - it is who we are! Every child's voice matters in our vibrant school community, where belonging isn't just a word, it's a feeling we create together.
This special celebration day kicked off this week's Refugee Week, where we exploring 'Community as a Superpower.' Our amazing students will be spreading kindness through simple acts and building beautiful connections in the community.
On Wednesday 11th June, the Year 4 children enjoyed a visit from the PSCO, who delivered an important session on internet safety. They were reminded to keep parents or trusted adults informed about who they’re communicating with online and to avoid sharing videos taken inside their home or in school uniform. The talk covered age restrictions for popular apps like WhatsApp, Snapchat, and TikTok, as well as the importance of gaming safely. Children also discussed the impact of their digital footprint and the consequences of posting inappropriate content online. The key message: always stay safe and responsible online.
We look forward to continuing to work together and appreciate your active involvement in our school community. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for being an important part of our school family!

Best wishes,
Mrs Purshouse
(Head Teacher)

Safeguarding: Summer water safety
47% of UK accidental drownings occur between May and August. (RLSS) Accidents are mostly preventable with the correct knowledge and judgment. We have been asked by Wolverhampton Safeguarding Together to share this potentially lifesaving from Royal Life Saving Society:
Take a quick look at this short clip on keeping safe near water this summer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atYsL0PR7H0

Safeguarding: Car Safety
Did you know, in a crash, you’re twice as likely to die if you don’t wear a seat belt? Drivers and passengers aged 17-34 have the lowest seat belt-wearing rates, combined with the highest accident rate. People are less likely to use seat belts on short or familiar journeys – putting them at serious risk of injury in a crash.
We have been asked by Wolverhampton Safeguarding Together to share this potentially lifesaving information about car seats, seatbelts and UK law.
Car seat law UK - The law applies to cars, vans and other goods vehicles.
Child under three
You must always use a car seat that is the correct seat for your child’s age, height and weight whether travelling in the front or the back seat.
If the correct car seat is not available, it is illegal for the child to travel in the vehicle.
The only exception is in a taxi and then only if the correct seat is not available.
Child aged 3 –11, but under 135cm tall
You must use a car seat that is the correct seat for your child’s age, height and weight whether travelling in the front or the back seat.
The only exceptions to this, when the correct car seat is not available, are:
In a taxi where the correct car seat is not available
For an unexpected and necessary journey over a short distance
Two occupied child restraints in the vehicle prevent a third from being fitted.
In all of these cases, an adult seat belt must be used.
Child over 135cm, or 12 years and over
An adult seat belt must be worn.
