School News 27th June 2025

Summer Term 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Good morning, today we had an exciting NED workshop where KS2 children learned to Never give up, Encourage others, and Do their best. You will have received a letter advertising the yo-yos that NED uses to reinforce this key message. The children will have the opportunity to purchase a yo-yo during playtime for the next 10 school days, Monday 30th May - Friday 10th June, and we even have our own NED area on the KS2 playground for yo-yos to be used.

Last week we celebrated Refugee Week in school themed around ‘Community as a Superpower. Part of the celebration was inviting pupils to take part in the 500 Word Writing competition launched by Wolverhampton City Council, in celebration of Refugee Week where the children were asked to submit a piece of writing that celebrated how communities can bring people together.

Special congratulations go to one of our Year 5 pupils, who was chosen by the competition judges to represent Goldthorn Park at a special ceremony at the Mayor’s Parlour in Wolverhampton.  The judges were so impressed with her powerful piece. Well done Mansi!

As ever, school has worked hard to provide many opportunities to enhance our children's learning. This week, our Year 1 pupils visited Hoo Farm to support their poetry learning in English. The children will be composing their own poems using the animals they explored at the farm. The children also enhanced their previous topic 'Jurassic Hunter' learning by taking part in a fossil workshop and taking a dinosaur tour!

In Year 2, the children have been learning about the Inukshuks in their Come Fly with Me – Arctic topic. The children were inspired by Ted Harrison's work in art and created collages using a range of materials to create an Inukshuk landscape. They then used salt dough to create their very own 3D Inukshuk models. Very creative!

The children in Year 3 had an absolutely fantastic time on our recent trip to Dudley Zoo – many of them even said, "It’s been the best day ever!"

The children spent the day exploring the zoo and learning all about the amazing animals that live there. One of the highlights was taking part in an African-themed workshop, where we discovered fascinating facts about African animals, their habitats, the climate, and the serious issue of poaching. A particularly exciting moment for everyone was getting the chance to feed the meerkats!

This week, Year 5 visited Cadbury World and learned how chocolate is made, from the cocoa bean to the final treat. The children enjoyed watching the chocolate-making process and exploring the fun displays. One of the best parts was tasting some yummy chocolate along the way!

This week our new Play Leaders and Sports Leaders have undertaken their official training in school, so they are ready to get started on the playgrounds in September.  These children will help further improve our playtimes at lunchtime, organising and leading games and activities that will help our children to play safely, be active, and have fun. Thank you to all children who applied to be a Play Leader and Sports Leader!

Next week is filled with Year 6 visits to their new Secondary Schools, PCSO visits, Sport's Days across school, Children's Book award ceremony at Wolverhampton Grammar School and a visit from the author Chante Timothy in our celebration of the Black British Author Festival 2025.

We are eager to keep collaborating with you and value your active participation in our school community. Should you have any questions or require assistance, feel free to contact us. Thank you for being a vital part of our school family!

Best wishes,

Mrs Purshouse
