School News - 27th September 2024

Autumn Term 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

another busy couple of weeks with Year 5 and Year 6 swimming daily and our extra curricular clubs starting across school. We welcomed the PCSO who dropped in to run sessions with our Year 5 to extend their learning in PSHEe and we enjoyed a special assembly where our visitor, Clare, was in school talking about the benefits of being part of the Scouting organisation. Upcoming we have Year 2 and Year 3 visiting the Grand Theatre, Patrick Flynn, our Online Safety consultant, running a parent workshop about supporting children with Online Safety, and a member of the UK parliament team are joining us to present an assembly about how the UK Parliament is run. All of these extra activities are supporting the personal development of our pupils at Goldthorn Park Primary.

We are always looking for personal development activities for our wonderful children and would welcome additional suggestions from our families in our suggestion box found in the School office.

Thank you for your continued support with uniform, a reminder that if boots are worn to school in bad weather the pupils are expected to change into black school shoes in school to reduce mess and increase comfort.

Thank you to all of our families for your continued support.

Best wishes,

Mrs R. Purshouse

(Headteacher)

Parent Governor Vacancy

There are two parent Governor vacancies on our Local Governing Board. Our Local Governing Board is made up of representatives from Parents, Staff, and the Community.  Some parents may be put off by the amount of work involved in being a Governor or feel that they do not have the necessary expertise, knowledge or skills to carry out the role effectively. However, parents have much to offer to their local schools and can play a vital part in helping schools to meet the needs of the children and communities they serve.  Governors are not expected to be instant experts, and should you be elected to join our Board, you will be provided with relevant information by ourselves and our Governor Support Team to support you in your role. Remember, decisions taken by the Local Governing Board will affect your child’s future education.

To nominate yourself, or another parent, please email Dawn Cooper (dcooper@ehlt.org.uk) with a short statement about yourself and why you wish to be nominated / why you are nominating someone else. If we receive more than one nomination, we will use your statement to give parents a little bit of information about the candidates before they vote.  The closing date for nominations is 10.00 am on Monday 4th October 2024.  Once nominations have been received, we will write to parents with details of nominees and a ballot will be held. If only one or two nominations are received, then those parents / carers will be duly appointed.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further details – I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.  We look forward to receiving your nomination! Mrs Purshouse

School Rules

Throughout this academic year, our emphasis has been on our three fundamental principles - Ready, Respectful, and Safe.

We urge all pupils to reflect on whether their conduct aligns with these three values.

It would greatly benefit the school if parents could also discuss the concepts of Ready, Respectful, and Safe with their children at home.

PE Uniform

Physical Education is a crucial component of the school curriculum, and our PE uniform is required for all PE classes. We kindly ask parents to make sure that all uniforms are properly labelled with their children's names. The PE uniform must be worn on the designated PE days.

Nut Free

A reminder that Goldthorn Park is a NUT FREE school. We currently have 3 pupils with severe nut allergies and in some cases, just being near someone else eating nuts can be enough to trigger a severe allergic reaction. This includes: Ferrero Roche, Snickers, peanut butter and some Bueno bars.

Year 7 Applications - An update from Secondary admissions

If your child is in Year 6 this year you will need to apply for a Year 7 place for September 2025. The online application system is open now. Once you have registered on the online system, you will be asked to enter your child’s UID, this will pre-populate the basic details of your application. Please note that the deadline for applications is 31st October 2024. Applying after this date will jeopardise your chances of gaining a place in your preferred school.

You will be notified of your child’s school place allocation on 3rd March 2025. You will be able to view the allocation through the online application system, and you will also receive an email containing your child’s allocation details.

If you require any assistance with your application, advice and support is available to you either by emailing School.Admissions@wolverhampton.gov.uk or by calling School Admissions and Appeals on 01902 551122.

Year 7 applications for Secondary Schools can seem daunting. If you would like support completing the Year 7 application form you can attend a workshop held by the City of Wolverhampton.

An exciting opportunity for children to make friends and learn new skills.

We have been asked by our Safeguarding colleagues at City of Wolverhampton Council to share this health warning about water beads.

Wolverhampton Girls High School have asked us to share this information with our families:
