Autumn Term 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
this week our newly appointed School Council have been busy selling Remembrance Day poppies to raise money to support those in need. We will mark Remembrance day with a 1 minute silence at 11:00 on Monday 11th November.
Our Well being Champions have plans to improve lunchtimes and support across school with promoting mindfulness and self care. They have also helped to plan next weeks 'Anti-Bullying Week' to raise awareness around this - Children have been invited to wear odd socks to promote this on Tuesday 12th November. At Goldthorn Park Primary we invest time in our student bodies to ensure our pupils are 'heard' and represented in the decision making for their school. A big thank you to the teachers leading these groups and for all of the good work they do in this.
Thank you to the parents who were able to join us for the Reflexions workshop this morning. The theme for the workshop was 'What is Anxiety?' and we had positive feedback on this. If you were unable to attend but would like the information, Mr Middleton will share this through our website and ClassDojo in the coming days. Thank you also to the Reception parents who were able to join the team for our Phonics Workshop - Reading is the key to unlocking our children's futures.
Next week we are taking delivery of the Book Fair in school. This could be a great opportunity to stock up with presents and will be open after school from Thursday 14th until Wednesday 20th and there is a card payment facility.
Finally, Next Friday our School Council have organised an own-clothes day with a yellow and/ or spotty theme. A donation of £1 would be much appreciate to support this Children's Charity.
Thank you to all of our families for your continued support.
Best wishes,
Mrs R. Purshouse
(Headteacher)
Diwali Day 2024
We hope everyone has enjoyed celebrating Diwali. Before our half term break we invited Antonio into school and the children were able to enjoy a Dhol drumming session - we have some true experts in school!
The children enjoyed a party, created diva lamps, Diwali cards and firework patterns alongside sharing the story of Rama and Sita. A wonderful day in school. We all wish our families who are celebrating Diwali next week a joyful time with family and friends.
The Bennett Story Garden - Enrichment
On Monday 21st October 2024, 12 children from Years 2 and 3 were invited to visit the Wolverhampton Grammar School to meet ‘The Animal Man’ in the Bennett Story Garden. They were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet a scorpion, a lizard, a snake, an owl and a skunk. They then followed the instructions from the author/illustrator Alison Brown online, on how to draw her delightful bee character Billie, from ‘Billie’s Buzz’ – to help them in drawing their own illustrations for their story. We hope that one of their stories will win the competition and that future visitors to the Story Garden will be able to enjoy it, by accessing a ‘Q R Code’.
Year 6 Design and Technology - Enrichment
In DT, Year 6 have been busy working hard at creating their pitch boards to promote their ownÂ
