Headteacher's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we move through this exciting term, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate some of the incredible opportunities our children have enjoyed recently, both inside and outside the classroom.

Throughout October, our school has proudly celebrated Black History Month, embracing this year’s powerful theme: “Standing Firm in Power and Pride.” This theme honours the strength, resilience, and achievements of Black communities across the world.

Across the month, pupils have taken part in a range of enriching activities, including themed assemblies, classroom discussions, and creative projects that have helped deepen their understanding of Black history and culture. We’ve explored the lives and work of inspiring Black authors, and celebrated stories that reflect identity, heritage, and hope.

These celebrations have provided a meaningful opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of Black people to British society and beyond, helping our children grow in empathy, awareness, and pride in diversity.

Our Year 5 Trip to the Space Centre was a truly inspiring experience. Pupils had the chance to explore the wonders of space, deepening their understanding of science and sparking their curiosity in a way that only hands-on learning can achieve.

We were also delighted to welcome so many of you to our Early Years and Year 1 Parent Workshops for Phonics. These sessions are designed to support you in helping your child develop strong early reading skills at home, and your involvement makes a real difference. Thank you for your continued partnership.

Parents’ Evenings have been a wonderful opportunity to share your child’s progress and celebrate their achievements. It’s always a joy to reflect on how much our pupils have grown, both academically and personally.

Finally, our Diwali Celebration Day was a vibrant and joyful occasion. The school was filled with colour, music, and community spirit as we celebrated the Festival of Lights together. Highlights included a lively dhol drumming workshop, which brought smiles and rhythm to all!

Thank you for your ongoing support in making our school a place of learning, celebration, and togetherness. We look forward to many more memorable moments ahead.

Warm regards,

Mrs R. Purshouse

Meeting David Walliams

ree

Children from Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 had an unforgettable experience attending a special author event with David Walliams at Grand Station, Wolverhampton! The world-famous author inspired pupils with his hilarious stories, creative characters, and passion for writing.

During the event, David shared fascinating insights into how he creates his books, from the very first idea to the final published story. The children laughed along as he read extracts from some of his most popular stories and even gave advice to budding young writers about using imagination and humour in their own work.

It was a truly inspiring afternoon that has motivated our pupils to read more, write creatively, and dream big — just like David Walliams himself! David Walliams Inspires our Children!

Safety Squad

ree

We’re excited to introduce our newly selected Safety Squad — a dedicated group of safety-minded pupils from Years 5 and 6 who are passionate about helping keep our school community safe.

These pupils have volunteered to take on an important role in promoting safety across the school. From sharing key messages in assemblies to supporting safe behaviours during break times and around the school grounds, our Safety Squad will be working together to raise awareness and encourage responsibility.

We look forward to empowering them to make thoughtful decisions that help ensure our school remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone — both inside and outside the school gates.

Music Award 2025

ree

Goldthorn Park Primary School is delighted to announce that our school has been awarded the Music Mark for the academic year 2025–2026 — a national recognition of our commitment to high-quality music education.

This award celebrates the dedication of our staff, pupils, and wider school community in promoting music as a vital part of learning. Over the past year, we have worked hard to enhance our music provision, offering engaging lessons, performance opportunities, and creative experiences that help children develop their musical talents and confidence.

Being recognised with the Music Mark for another year is a proud moment for our school, and we look forward to continuing to nurture a love of music in all our pupils.

Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us make music a joyful and enriching part of school life.

Attendance Matters...

ree

Regular school attendance is essential for every child’s learning, progress, and overall development. Evidence shows that children who attend school consistently achieve better academic outcomes and build stronger foundations for future success.

At Goldthorn Park Primary School, we are committed to working closely with families to ensure that all pupils are in school, on time, every day. If you have any concerns about your child’s attendance, please don’t hesitate to contact us — we’re here to help and support you.

Please note:

  • Attendance below 96% is considered low.

  • Pupils with attendance below 90% are classed as Persistently Absent.

Let’s continue to work together to give every child the best possible chance to thrive.
