Headteacher's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am absolutely delighted to share the publication of our recent Ofsted report and to celebrate the many wonderful aspects of our school community that were recognised by inspectors.

The report reflects what we see every day at Goldthorn Park: a caring, ambitious and inclusive school where pupils thrive. Inspectors recognised our strong standards in achievement, curriculum and teaching, early years provision, inclusion, and leadership and governance, whilst also confirming that safeguarding standards are met. What makes me most proud, however, is the way inspectors captured the spirit of our school through the experiences of our children. In the report, they describe Goldthorn Park as a "happy and caring school" where "pupils thrive" and where "backgrounds, languages and differences are embraced and celebrated."

This report is a celebration of every member of our school community. Thank you to our pupils for their enthusiasm and determination, our staff for their unwavering commitment, our governors and trustees for their support and challenge, and, importantly, our families for the partnership we share in ensuring the very best outcomes for our children.

Over the past few weeks, our pupils have continued to enjoy a wide range of enriching experiences beyond the classroom. We were delighted for children to attend the recent author event at Wolverhampton Grammar School, inspiring a love of reading and writing. Our Year 2 pupils and their families thoroughly enjoyed the Access to Nature events Year 2’s Outdoor Adventure!, while pupils in Years 5 and 6 had a fantastic opportunity to experience live theatre through their recent trip Poetry Comes to Life! These experiences help broaden horizons, raise aspirations and create lasting memories.

I would also like to thank everyone who supported Manny's Mile. Your generosity helped raise much-needed funds for Dementia UK and demonstrated, once again, the incredible community spirit that makes Goldthorn Park so special. Manny’s Mile Comes to Goldthorn Park!

Our after-school enrichment programme continues to go from strength to strength. We know just how popular many of our clubs have become and that demand often exceeds the number of places available. We are currently exploring additional opportunities and provision for the Spring Term so that even more children can access the activities they enjoy.

Finally, thank you to all parents and carers who completed our Parent View questionnaire during the Summer Term. I will be publishing the results shortly. However, there is one area on which I would particularly value some additional feedback.

Year 2 Trip to Kingswood

Year 2 had a fantastic day exploring the outdoors at Kingswood Trust. The children took part in a range of exciting activities, including pond dipping, leaf printing, den building, animal encounters and adventurous climbing activities. They enjoyed discovering minibeasts, getting creative with natural materials and learning how to care for animals. Throughout the day, the children showed fantastic teamwork, confidence and independence while enjoying everything that nature has to offer. We are incredibly proud of how well they represented our school!

Year 5 and Year 6 Trip to the Grand Theatre

On Thursday, Years 5 and 6 were treated to a visit to the Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton to see the children’s author Michael Rosen. When we arrived, we had to climb several flights of stairs until we reached the Upper Circle where our seats were. It was high up and our seats could not have been any better.

Michael Rosen is renowned as a brilliant speaker as well as a very funny poet and he didn’t disappoint. From the moment that he entered the stage he entertained us and made us laugh out loud with his great renditions of his poems. He was also brilliant at getting the children to join in and perform the poems with him. The funny characters and situations that he described will remain in our minds for quite a time.

The Importance of Good Attendance

Regular school attendance is essential for every child's learning, wellbeing and overall development. Children who attend school consistently are more likely to achieve their full academic potential, build positive relationships, and develop important life skills such as resilience, independence and confidence.

At Goldthorn Park Primary School, we are committed to working closely with parents and carers to ensure that every child attends school regularly, arrives on time and is ready to make the most of every learning opportunity.

Our whole-school attendance target is 96% or above each week. Achieving this target helps to ensure that children benefit from uninterrupted learning, maintain strong friendships and develop positive habits that will support them throughout their education and beyond.

Thank you for your continued support in making attendance a priority. By working together, we can give every child the very best opportunity to learn, thrive and succeed.
