Autumn Term 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a fantastic start to the new academic year! It has been a pleasure welcoming back our pupils and seeing them settle in new year groups.
We have welcomed our new teachers Mrs Brownhill (Class 11), Mrs Attwood (Class 10), Miss Simonds (Class 6) and Miss Dale (Class 5) and they have all made super starts in their Year groups.
Year 6 have started the new year with a BANG! Either at Laches Wood on residential or at school all Year 6 pupils are learning new skills and building new friendships. If your child is in Year 5 we will be sharing the Year 6 residential opportunity with you soon.
Across school we have been focussed on Traditional Tales and testing the information within these stories with Science. Year 3 have explored the story of Hansel and Gretel and have recreated key parts of the tale together and explored how rocks are formed.
Great learning Year 3!
A request that all parents update medical information and check permissions on Arbor to ensure we are working on the most up-to-date information. If your child has had any medical or allergy changes it is important that school is updated in order to help us keep our children safe and healthy.
A reminder that Goldthorn Park is a NUT FREE school. We currently have 3 pupils with severe nut allergies and in some cases, just being near someone else eating nuts can be enough to trigger a severe allergic reaction. This includes: ferrero roche, snickers, peanut butter and some bueno bars.
Thank you for your support with uniform, the children look smart and ready for learning.
Thank you to all of our families for your continued support.
Best wishes,
Mrs R. Purshouse
(Headteacher)
Games Award
Well done to our PE team who, alongside the Play Leaders, have been awarded the School Games Award Gold for the 3rd year in a row. This award shows our commitment to offering our pupils
opportunities to develop their confidence, skills and fitness with school sports. We have many opportunities across the school year for pupils to engage with and compete in sporting activities and competitions.
Our new PE leader Mrs Attwood will continue this drive for developing school sports as we aim towards the Platinum level this year.
Eco-School Award
Well done to the School Council of 2023-24, throughout the year the school council worked towards retaining our Eco-Schools accreditation and we had this confirmed during the Summer break.
Eco-Schools confirmed that...
"Your Eco-Committee at Goldthorn Park Primary School have been successful in meeting the requirements for the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award."
They then went on to say, "We reviewed your application and noted that it is evident that young people in your school are aware of environmental issues and passionate about protecting our planet! It’s clear that completing it provided your Eco-Committee with plenty of ideas for creating an impactful Action Plan. You chose to work on topics that mattered to you, and this is a sensible approach that will lead to increased engagement and bigger impacts. This approach places them at the heart of your Eco-Schools work and will lead to increased engagement. We enjoyed reading about your shelters for hedgehogs! We enjoyed reading about your range of activities within your curriculum! These examples clearly demonstrate that staff members in your school are willing to go above and beyond to include these important issues in pupil’s learning! Pass on a thank you to them from the Eco-Schools’ Team. Your greatest success is a brilliant achievement. Thank you so much for submitting such a terrific application. We have loved reading about your journey and are incredibly impressed by all you have achieved. We have no hesitation in awarding you an Eco-Schools Green Flag with Merit, congratulations!
We are all very proud of our school's commitment to raising and supporting environmental issues and our School Council were instrumental in driving these positive changes across school.
Our School Council for 2024-25 is lead by Miss Richards and the election process will begin shortly.
Year 7 Applications - An update from Secondary admissions
If your child is in Year 6 this year you will need to apply for a Year 7 place for September 2025. The online application system is open now. To help make applying even easier, your child has a unique identifying number (UID) sent from The City of Wolverhampton. Once you have registered on the online system, you will be asked to enter your child’s UID, this will pre-populate the basic details of your application. Please note that the deadline for applications is 31 October 2024. Applying after this date will jeopardise your chances of gaining a place in your preferred school.
You will be notified of your child’s school place allocation on 3 March 2025. You will be able to view the allocation through the online application system, and you will also receive an email containing your child’s allocation details.
If you require any assistance with your application, advice and support is available to you either by emailing School.Admissions@wolverhampton.gov.uk or by calling School Admissions and Appeals on 01902 551122.
