Instruction Writing in Year 1
Children in Year 1 have been learning about the features of instructional writing. They explored how instructions include a title, a list of equipment, and clear step-by-step directions. Year 6 meet Author Holly Webb
Our Year 6 pupils had a fantastic opportunity this week as they travelled to Wolverhampton Grammar School to meet the much‑loved children’s author Holly Webb. The visit was an inspiring experience for the children, who were excited to hear Holly speak about her writing journey, where her story ideas come from, and how she develops the characters that so many young readers adore. National Storytelling Week
For National Storytelling Week, Year 2 children have been exploring a wonderful variety of stories, including Non-fiction books, modern favourites and imaginative stories they created themselves. Year 2 Launch Their New Book with a Cosy Pyjama Day!
Year 2 pupils came to school in their pyjamas to celebrate the start of their new class book, Couch Potato by Jory John. The cosy day helped create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for reading and discussion. Children explored the importance of mindfulness and exercise. They talked about how being active and looking after both our bodies and minds can help us feel happier and healthier.

Land Ahoy! Year 2 Sets Sail on a Pirate Inspiration Day
Year 2 took part in a Pirates Inspiration Day for their new topic ‘Land Ahoy’, and English book ‘The Pirates Next door’. Pupils came into school dressed as pirates or in pirate colours and took part in lots of activities during the day; such as making pirate hats and learning to draw pictures of pirates. Pupils also took part in a Pirate Dance in the afternoon, in which they learn to sing a shanty, learnt a pirate dance and came up with their own using common pirate actions.

Physical Development Workshop
We had a wonderful workshop in Reception learning all about gross motor and fine motor skills. The children enjoyed sharing their pencil grip song with their parents whilst showing them how to hold a pencil. Bonfire Day!
Across school we have been learning about Bonfire Day and why it is a key Historical event in British History. We focused on Guy Fawkes and learnt about the Gunpowder Plot and why he is such a significant Historical figure. We added this to our class timelines to identify when in History this key event took place. We enjoyed then using this learning to create Bonfire pictures using different media. Nursery Rhyme Week and Odd Socks in Reception!
This week we have enjoyed singing all of our favourite Nursery Rhymes with each other and with schools within our trust. Lots of our language development comes from learning our nursery rhymes which makes it a very important part of our learning ☺️ We all came to school with our odd socks on Monday to show we are all different in special ways.
